I did a ‘group’ forging today. And by group, I mean I forged a group of ‘Fern’ ogham pendants. I did this within the sacred space of ritual. Maybe I should start at the beginning of the story.
I am in the midst of doing another round of intense study of the Ogham. I was studying Fern (pronounced Fee-yarn) again and I got this ‘polite suggestion’ that I should offer them to others that may need it. I am at the point where I say ‘yes Ma’am’. You see, one of the benefits of Fern is that it has a particular type of protection. It has the focus of physical and emotional protection. It is thought of as being mainly for warriors. I am seeing it as for those that are in dangerous places or times. Who doesn’t that fit today? So I opened it up to those that wanted one on a pre-order basis, at a reduced rate.
I must say I am grateful for the response. I really wasn’t sure what to expect. And at first, I was thinking that this could also be a nice way to make a lot of items at one time and would be a good source of income. After all, this IS what I do for a living. As the week went along, I got the ‘nudge’ to help those that are fleeing Ukraine. Just seeing all the people in that situation is heartbreaking to me. There is a small part of me that says, ‘I’m just one person. What difference can I make?’ And then I remember that I like to focus on what I call the ‘Star Fish’ philosophy. I like to think and say, ‘I made a difference to that one!’ I didn’t announce that I was going to donate the proceeds. Grateful to say that I was able to help by a total of $310.
As far as the forging goes, it was interesting. I like to start out my smith work by doing a reading or what I like to think of as forging thoughts from the Urban Crow Oracle. It is what I use to think on throughout the time at Her smithy. (If you would like to see how I create my ritual space and how I do my magical forge work, you can do that here.) This particular one was Preparation and Luck. Not a bad way to start! On this day we seemed to be having one of those strange weather days.
The day before I was in short sleeves. This day was freezing and actually snowing with some healthy gusts! I couldn’t help but have a passing thought of those folks trudging through the cold on their way to safety. I was focusing on their physical and emotional protection at the same time I was instilling the very same into each pendant, forging that into the amulet for the soon to be wearer.
Another unique thing of note about this forging, all the amulets came from the same piece of metal. As if all were linked. Adding to each other. Although most will not know one another, I believe there will be an added strength from this.
All are wrapped up and ready to ship. I will send them ‘blind’. Not knowing which is which until the new owners get them. I am grateful for this Work!
